PLAYER OF THE DAY. Peter Curran, born 15th July 1962.
Peter was a talented half forward who could take a strong mark and was a good kick for goal.
He played 109 games for Hawthorn from 1983 to 1990 and kicked 196 goals. In 1986 and 1989 he was part of the Hawks' Premiership sides.
For the 1991 and 1992 seasons he was at Brisbane where he played 14 games for 8 goals.

Percy
Bentley – Player and Coach.
Percy played 263 games for Richmond
from 1925 to 1940 and kicked 275 goals. He was a strong ruckman who also had a
good tactical mind for the game, which would hold him in good stead as a coach.
From 1934 to 1940 he was Captain
Coach of the Tigers and led then in 133 games for 86 wins, 1 draw and 46
losses. A winning percentage of 65%.
He was Captain of the 1932
Premiership side and Captain Coach in 1934.
Percy was wooed by Carlton but
Richmond would not clear him, however they finally got their man in 1941.
At Carlton he coached in 281 games
from 1941 to 1955 which included the 1945 and 1947 flags.
His coaching record with the Blues
was 167 wins, 4 draws and 110 losses. A winning percentage of 59%. They were
also in 11 finals during his time at the helm.
A
Goal With Their First Kick.
A
number of players have had the honour of kicking a goal with the first kick in
their senior debut, but these men did it with their first number of kicks.
Clen Denning played for Carlton from 1935 to 1937
and kicked goals with his first 6 kicks.
He
played 18 games for the Blues, kicking 23 goals before crossing to Fitzroy.
Richard Lounder managed to score goals from his first
4 kicks as a Richmond player.
The
incredible thing is, he only played for 1 season in 4 games and 4 of his 5
goals came from that first game.
Daniel Metropolis didn’t leave his home state of WA to
play football as he was with the West Coast Eagles from 1992 to 2000 and Fremantle
in 2001.
He
also kicked goals with his first 4 kicks and finished his debut match with 7.
Trent
Knobel – Journeyman.
Trent played 13 games
for Brisbane to start off his football journey.
Recruited from QAFL club Broadbeach, he was with the Lions from 2000 to
2001.
The tall, big bodied
ruckman moved to St. Kilda in 2002 and from then till 2004 he was in 41 games
and kicked 8 goals.
Playing in the first 13
games of 2002 due to an injury to Peter Everitt, he didn’t really secure a regular
spot in the team again till mid 2003.
2004 saw him play
another 24 games, but contract negotiations saw him move to Richmond in 2005.
He spent the next 2
seasons with the Tigers playing 21 games for 4 goals. He only missed 3 games in
2005, but only played 3 in 2006.
